Gresh & Zo Survey The AFC Landscape
BOSTON (CBS) - Andy Gresh and Scott Zolak opened their show on Thursday analyzing the AFC and how the Patriots fit in the playoff picture heading into their bye week.
If the season were to end today the Patriots would hold the second seed in the playoffs and receive a first-round bye. The Denver Broncos - a team that most would consider the conference favorites - would be the fifth seed given their lone loss and the undefeated record of division rival Chiefs.
This led into a discussion about Kansas City: are they really a Super Bowl contender? Or has their record been padded by a weak schedule? Gresh & Zo both feel that we're about to find out.
"Kansas City is the team that you could see getting a number one or a number two seed and someone walking into their building and beating them in the divisional round," said Gresh."
Zo feels that by this time of the year teams have already established themselves, and they are what their record says they are. It's a four or five team race now, but by December teams start to separate. For the Chiefs, now is the time where they either fall back in the pack or hold their position at the top.
"Why do I say things start to separate? In the next three weeks the Chiefs play Denver, San Diego and Denver again in a three week period. We're going to know a heck of a lot more about Kansas City in the next three weeks," said Zo. "Maybe they separate more from Denver and shock the heck out of us."
In looking at the remaining schedules of AFC contenders, Gresh and Zolak predict how it will all shake out and give their pick on which team will hold homefield advantage.
