Gresh & Zo: Rajon Rondo Might Never Mature
Gresh & Zo led off today's show discussing the complex relationship between Rajon Rondo and Doc Rivers. With Rondo losing his cool and getting suspended for Game 2, the guys take a look back at Rondo's and Rivers' history, and debate whether or not these two guys can coexist as this team begins to look towards the future. Does Rivers have Rondo's back? Or has he reached his breaking point with the eccentric star?
"Part of the reason they put this guy [Rondo] up on the trade block is that he is a real pain in the ass to deal with, and it's really on Doc Rivers to do most of the managing of this guy," Andy Gresh said. "I'm wondering if we're a step closer to Doc Rivers' breaking point with Rajon Rondo."
Scott Zolak praised Rivers' ability to manage egos over the years but said the Rondo-Rivers dynamic is unique. Zo also questioned whether Rondo would ever develop into a mature pro, much like Paul Pierce did during his career in Boston.
"Everybody goes back to the Pierce days," Zo said. "Paul had his moments but look at what a great, classy pro he's turned into. But I don't think Rondo will ever be that guy. It would have happened by now."
