Gresh & Zo: Patriots Taking A Look At Brandon Browner

BOSTON (CBS) - Ex-Seahawk cornerback Brandon Browner is a free agent, and on Thursday he reportedly came to New England for a visit.

The 6'4" 220-pounder spent four seasons with the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL before signing with Seattle in 2011.

Browner was suspended for four games in 2012, and again for five games in 2013 for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The Pro Bowl corner must also sit the first four games of 2014.

With Darrelle Revis, Alfonzo Dennard, Logan Ryan and Kyle Arrington already in place at the position, it's likely the Patriots would try him at safety should he sign with New England, although Andy Gresh and Scott Zolak are in disagreement about that.

Gresh and Zolak discussed the prospect of Browner becoming a Patriot Thursday morning.

"If Browner's coming here I don't think it's to play corner," said Gresh. "Browner is Belichick's dreamboat player."

"What are you talking about?" asked a confused Scott Zolak.

"Belichick has tried for years and years to find that guy. I am convinced that somewhere in a file in Bill Belichick's desk there's this 'Big Nickel' file - and it says 'Here's what I would do if I found the right guy to come in and be that big, mother-bleeper safety who can support in the run and cover tight ends.' He's what Bill Belichick has been waiting for to put at safety."

Zolak knows first hand just how big this guy is.

"He's big like me. Dude, this guy is a 6'4 225 pound corner. There's certain guys when you stand next to him, just physically imposing guys, Brandon Browner may be one of the biggest defensive backs I've ever seen in person. I'll never forget standing next to this guy," said Zo.

"You start to watch him and he would just stand there and jaw jack guys and get in fisticuffs on the line of scrimmage. He's nasty. He and Richard Sherman at one time were the best tandem in the league. I think they'd bring him in to play corner, but to your point he's got the physical skills to maybe move around a little bit," Zo concluded.

Gresh thinks if the Patriots sign Browner that could signal the end of the (short-lived) Adrian Wilson era in New England.
