Gresh & Zo: Montreal Wants No Part Of This
BOSTON (CBS) - The Bruins and Canadiens start their highly anticipated playoff series Thursday night. The two teams met four times in the regular season with Montreal winning three out of four games.
The two squads last met in the postseason during a memorable seven game, round one series in 2011, when the Bruins won the series and went on the win the Stanley Cup.
98.5 The Sports Hub's Andy Gresh and Scott Zolak have been looking forward to the start of this series for weeks. Gresh sees the Bruins as the better team and can't wait to see the Bruins come out and perform.
"Today is the day," Gresh said. "Today is the beginning of what will be five or six games of great Bruins hockey on their way to where we think they should end up. Montreal is just in the way and they say they want this series, but I really think deep down they know the Bruins are the better team.
"They know the Bruins have the ability to impose their will, now it's up to the B's to go and do it. … This is where the extra level kicks in. This is where we're going to see the next level of Bruins playoff hockey. They can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's 21 games to go at most. If they take care of business, it should be less. But this is where I expect to see the team that we've watched all year turn it into overdrive."
Zo doesn't want to look to the past and history. He wants to see what the Bruins are made of and who this team is.
"I don't care about the past," Zo said. "I don't care about the history. I don't care about the Boston Bruins and the run that they went on in 2011 or how the hell they got popped in '12 or what happened last year.
"That is the history. It is. That's history, you can't refute that. We understand that. That has no bearing on what's going to take place when that puck drops tonight. It's about the two teams, and more importantly it's about this Bruins team."
