Gresh & Zo: Logan Thomas A Perfect Fit For The Patriots
BOSTON (CBS) - Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas worked out with the Patriots on Wednesday for a reported two hours. Thomas joins a long list of QB's the team has met with, including Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and A.J. McCarron.
The difference between the six-foot-six, 260 pound Thomas and the others, however, is that he played some tight end for Virginia Tech. During the combine, many of his numbers were better than some of the top tight end prospects, posting a 4.61 40-yard time, a 35.5 vertical jump and a 7.05 three cone drill time. If those numbers are compared to the other tight ends, Thomas was in the top three in many of the categories.
Andy Gresh and Scott Zolak talked about Thomas on Thursday and both are intrigued about what he could bring to the team if drafted by the Patriots.
According to Gresh, Thomas was the number one tight end coming out of high school and was converted to quarterback by Virginia Tech after his redshirt year. With his positional flexibility, youth and raw athletic skills, he could be an interesting fit with the team.
"Logan Thomas fits in perfectly and he's your third quarterback," Gresh said. "It makes too much sense. It makes too much sense. … You know what the first thing I'm thinking of? Trick plays. It's a layer of the Patriots offense we haven't seen since Charlie Weis was here. And now you put a tight end on the field who has the ability to throw to maybe your other gigantic tight end? The options are endless."
Zolak wonders if the Patriots are doing their due diligence to leave no stone unturned, or if they truly are interested in looking for a quarterback in the upcoming draft.
"I think he's on the radar here, no doubt about it -- especially when they take the time to sit down and pluck your brain. … Are they doing their ground reconnaissance? Is he just in the line like a lot of other guys?" finished Zo.
