Gresh & Zo: Is Adrian Gonzalez The Right Man To Lead Red Sox?

In what seems like it's becoming a trend, Adrian Gonzalez again made some perplexing comments, this time about his stats.

On Monday, the Red Sox first baseman told The Globe's Peter Abraham not to worry about his slow start, his stats will be there in the end.

"The only thing I can say is that when the last day of the season comes, [his slugging percentage] is going to be over .500 and the on-base is going to around .400," Gonzo told Abraham. You may not see it right now because it's May 7. But I promise you when the season is over, the slugging will be over .500 and the on-base will be around .400. It is every year.''

"It was more definitive and matter of fact than pissed off," Gresh said of Gonzalez' comments. "I kind of wanted to see a little Dustin Pedroia come out of him."

In Gonzo's defense, the article did start off with him saying "I'd rather go 0-for-8 and win than go 3-for-5 and lose. All I really care about is winning.''

But, those remarks about the stats have been getting torn apart by Red Sox fans and the media alike.

Enter Gresh & Zo.

The Sports Hub duo questions whether Gonzalez can truly thrive in a city like Boston, with Zo comparing Gonzalez to a former whipping boy of Sox fans, J.D. Drew.

"There were two stats taht he rambled off there; one was OBP and the other was slugging. Where are RBIs and home runs?" asks Zo. "Anything there? Because right now, guess how many the flavor of the month -Will Middlebrooks - has compared to him."

Middlebrooks has three home runs in his last two games. Gonzalez has two homers in 28 games this season.

"They got their cyborg," Zo said of Gonzalez. "He's conditioned; those are the numbers he is looking at."

As the team continues to struggle, and the spotlight on Gonzalez heats up, is this the type of guy that can help lead the team out of their funk?

Listen in to find out.
