Gresh & Zo: Hardy Hates Kanye
BOSTON (CBS) - There's something about awards shows and Kanye West that just don't splice.
We all remember a few years back when he interrupted Taylor Swift's MTV VMAs acceptance speech, well Kanye West was at it again Sunday night as Beck took home Best Album at The Grammys.
West stopped short of grabbing the microphone like he did with Swift, and at first it appeared to be a funny prank.
But when West spoke afterwards on the red carpet, it's clear he was not kidding around:
West told E! that Beck should have given his award to Beyonce, and he urged the Grammys to stop playing around with real artists or else they'll stop coming back to the event.
This set off Hardy Monday morning, who delivered a rant for the ages on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh & Zolak.
"Kanye is not a bad artist in and of itself. He's a bad human being who makes bad music that is derivative of everything else that's out there, and the only thing that might be considered mildly original that he produces is one hundred percent unlistenable garbage," Hardy said to start the rant.
But he was just getting started.
"I can't think of anybody who sits down and listens to a Kanye West album and ways, 'Wow that really opened me up! That is art that speaks to my soul!' -- it's garbage. Fine! That's your big threat? To not come to the Grammys anymore? Fine! Good! Go away! I have zero use for him."
Beck actually said afterwards he thought Beyonce should have won, so he's in agreement with Kanye here about the rightful winner.
But that's not the point, and Hardy took offense to that.
"People just love the idea of 'celebrity' and they have no idea what it means to sit down and put out a record, and actually experience something that's either new or vibrant," shouted Hardy. "Kanye, you don't even know what you're talking about. You haven't listened to the Beck album! I would bet anything."
The text doesn't even do it justice. You gotta hear this rant.
