Gresh & Zo: Bergeron 'Not Sure' If He'll Take Faceoffs In Game 7
This season, Patrice Bergeron took 1,641 faceoffs for the Bruins, the fourth-most in the NHL. Among players with at least 1,500 draws, Bergeron had by far the best winning percentage at 59.3.
So when the alternate captain and Selke finalist was unable to take faceoffs (but for one) in Sunday's Game 6 due to an undisclosed injury, it was no surprise to see the Bruins lose 42 of the 82 faceoffs.
Gresh & Zo asked Bergeron on Tuesday if he'll be back at the faceoff dot for Game 7 on Wednesday. Bergeron was able to confirm he'll be on the ice, but he doesn't know if he'll be ready to re-assume his duties at the dot.
"You know what? I think we'll see how it goes tomorrow," Bergeron told Gresh & Zo. "I'm not sure. I can't really answer that one yet, but we'll see."
Regarding the weight of a playoff Game 7, Bergeron did say that last year's experience against Montreal, Tampa Bay and Vancouver will certainly help the team this time around.
"We have the experience," Bergeron said. "We went through it three times last year. We know what it is, and we know what it takes to come out on top. It's about doing it. ... It's about enjoying it but also being ready, being determined and being desperate."
Bergeron was also asked about the significance of Tyler Seguin's game-winning goal in Game 6, and not surprisingly, Bergeron was just as impressed by the 20-year-old's defensive play in his own zone that led to the Bruins' third goal of the game.
"If you look at that third goal, the defensive play that he makes, it's something very important in the playoffs," Bergeron said. "I think that gave him some confidence. After that, he was playing a lot better and he was moving his feet. That goal was huge."
