Gresh Worried About Pierzynski's Personality
BOSTON (CBS) - The Red Sox have made their first major move of the offseason, agreeing to terms with free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski on a one-year $8.25 million deal.
A.J. Pierzynski hasn't had the greatest of reputations during his MLB tenure, often times being called a "bad teammate" and routinely being named as one of the game's most hated players.
Abraham On Toucher & Rich: Pierzynski's Reputation Overblown
Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe said on Toucher & Rich earlier this morning that Pierzynski's rep has largely been overblown, but Andy Gresh is legitimately worried about the veteran catcher's prickly personality.
"I'm not worried about him at the plate. I am worried about that personality coming into this clubhouse," said a concerned Gresh. "I am hoping it is Yankee-like, or Patriot-like where you walk in the room, blend in with your teammates and not walk out of line."
To further exacerbate his point, Gresh played some audio of A.J. Pierzynski on with Dan LeBatard of ESPN where he openly admitted to playing games hungover, "absolutely" smelling like booze and umpires calling him out for it.
"Now he can be fun like that, but he can also grate on you and grate on teammates," said Gresh.
