Greenfield Police Escort 93-Year-Old Veteran To Parade

GREENFIELD (CBS) -- When retired Navy Lt. Commander Paul Siemens, 93, asked the Greenfield Police Department for a way to attend the town's Memorial Day parade, officers heeded the call.

Siemens was the Captain of a submarine chaser for 14 years during World War II. He now lives in a nursing home and cannot drive.

According to Greenfield Police, Siemens called the department asking for help to get to parade. Siemens was not only picked up in a police cruiser, he also rode in the parade.

"Lt. Commander Siemens, today we salute you, and all of our other military veterans, as we remember those who died fighting for our freedom, and the freedom of other nations," the Greenfield Police Department wrote on their Facebook page Monday.
