Gas Leak Shuts Down Part Of Government Center
BOSTON (CBS) -- A gas leak shut down part of Government Center in Boston Monday morning.
The Boston Fire Department said contractors working in the area struck a 6-inch gas line around 8 a.m. in front of 10 Tremont Street.
There were no reports of any injuries, though the leak prompted some precautionary building evacuations.
The area around Court, Somerset, and Sudbery Streets was shut down to traffic.
Gas companies were on scene trying to shut down the flow of gas in order to repair the leak. The Boston Fire Department said they expected it would take "a couple of hours" for the pipe to be replaced.
They said that, after the gas flow was shut off, the surrounding buildings would be vented and crews would use meters to check the air quality.
Shortly after noon, Boston Police said the roads closed due to the gas leak had been reopened.
