Gov. Patrick Announces Stanley Cup Bet With Illinois Governor
BOSTON (CBS) – Despite who wins the Stanley Cup, Gov. Deval Patrick and Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn have announced a friendly wager that will give back to those in need.
The governor of the losing team's state will volunteer at the local food bank of the winning governor's choosing.
If the Bruins win, Quinn will spend some time at the Greater Boston Food Bank.
If the Blackhawks win, Patrick will volunteer at the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
"I look forward to seeing the Bruins circle the ice with the Stanley Cup above their heads," Patrick said in a statement. "And I'm delighted to join with Governor Quinn to use the excitement of the playoffs to draw attention to the important issue of food insecurity."
Patrick, a Chicago native, had a city street named after him in Chicago last week.
Patrick told reporters Monday, despite his roots, he is behind the Bruins.
"Governor Patrick is skating on thin ice by betting against the mighty Chicago Blackhawks," said Quinn. "But the Greater Chicago Food Depository can always use extra help, so after he works a shift there, I'm happy to take Governor Patrick to the United Center to see the Stanley Cup return home."
