Gov. candidates set to debate on environment
The four candidates for governor will square off in a debate that will focus on the controversial Cape Wind project.
The debate Monday afternoon at Suffolk University will feature Gov. Deval Patrick, independent Timothy Cahill, Republican Charles Baker and Green-Rainbow Party candidate Jill Stein.
The candidates will be asked to share their views about how Cape Wind, a 130-turbine wind farm planned for Nantucket Sound, will affect the environment and the economy. U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar gave his approval to the first-in-the-nation wind farm in April after years of evaluation.
Patrick has been a longtime supporter of the project and has touted the jobs it will create, but Baker and Cahill oppose it.
