Goucher On Toucher & Rich: Without Bergeron, Bruins Searching For Solutions Up Front
BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Bruins suffered a frustrating 2-1 loss in Montreal on Saturday night, a night that saw their offense struggle to put shots on net.
Despite having a 6-on-4 advantage for the final minute of the game, the Bruins couldn't muster a single shot before the clock hit zero, and both Tyler Seguin and Brad Marchand didn't get a shot on goal the entire game. Because of this, head coach Claude Julien had Seguin on the team's third line at practice on Sunday.
98.5 The Sports Hub's Bruins play-by-play man Dave Goucher joined Toucher & Rich on Monday morning to talk about Seguin's demotion, and how much the team is missing Patrice Bergeron.
"There were a few guys that angered (Claude) the other night, (Seguin) wasn't alone. But he's now on what we'll call the third line," said Goucher, adding the move is to "try to get Seguin going."
"They're looking for some solutions up front, and its impossible to overstate how much they miss Patrice Bergeron in that lineup. It really throws everything up in the air for them," said Goucher. "He's their best all-around player. He brings things to the lineup nobody else does."
"You can't replace him. You can plug other people in there, and they will and see how it goes, but you have to hope it's not too long a thing," said Goucher.
Goucher said the return of Chris Kelly -- who's been sidelined the last month with a broken tibia -- should help, but there is certainly cause for concern with under a month left of the lockout-shortened season.
"You don't know what you're going to get night-to-night. You keep hearing there's another level they can get to. They tell us every night they have more to give as a team. But it's getting late now," said Goucher. "We just keep waiting, and it seems like they're waiting to take that game to the next level. And it just hasn't happened."
