Goodwin Launches Campaign For Mass. State Senate
BOSTON (AP) — Joe Kearns Goodwin, a former U.S. Army captain, is running for a seat in the Massachusetts state Senate.
The Concord native is the son of historian and author Doris Kearns Goodwin and Richard Goodwin, a one-time adviser to Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. He announced on Tuesday that he would seek the Democratic nomination for the Third Middlesex District seat currently held by Sen. Susan Fargo, who is retiring.
The 34-year-old Goodwin enlisted in the Army after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and has served in Iraq, where he received a bronze star, and in Afghanistan.
He has also worked in the steam and wind turbine divisions for General Electric Co.
At least four other Democrats and two Republicans are seeking the seat.
