Golf Carts Vandalized, Tagged With Swastikas At Stoneham Country Club
STONEHAM (CBS) -- Twenty golf carts were vandalized, including two that were tagged with swastikas, after someone broke into a Stoneham country club late Sunday night.
Workers at the Bear Hill Golf Club arrived Monday morning to find the damaged carts. In addition to the swastikas, four carts had "Don't lock us out" painted on windshields, and another was driven onto the course and smashed into a tree.
Club Vice President Rich Citrano said he was surprised and disgusted by the vandalism.
"You never think that something like this is going to happen in your town," he said. "Unfortunately it did."
The club is offering a $2,500 reward for anyone who can help police track down who is responsible for the damage.
Police believe the vandals had to forcibly open a garage door to gain access to the carts.
"These malicious acts were completed by a suspect or suspects who sought to harm the quality of life in our community," Stoneham Police Chief James McIntyre said. "We are following all leads and are actively looking for anyone involved in this crime."
