Gloucester Officials Decide Against Public 9/11 Ceremony
GLOUCESTER (CBS) – The city of Gloucester has decided it will not be one of the scores of cities and towns across the state and the nation that will hold public ceremonies to mark the twelfth anniversary of the September 11th attacks.
The fire chief in Gloucester said city officials talked about it, but decided against holding any public ceremony. Instead, a private moment of silence will take place to honor fallen first responders.
Until this year, Gloucester firefighters have hosted yearly public memorials dedicated to the victims of the attacks.
The President of the City Council told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Doug Cope that she is disappointed at the decision. She plans to move for a moment of silence at Tuesday night's City Council meeting to remember victims of the attacks.
