Gloucester Man Arrested After Police Say He Drove 93 MPH In Storm
MANCHESTER (CBS) - State Police say they arrested a man after he drove 93 mph during the height of Hurricane Sandy.
Police said around 4:40 p.m., State Police Sergeant Eric Bernstein was driving south on Route 128 in poor conditions when he saw a grey Hyundai sedan pass him going 75 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Bernstein tried to stop the vehicle but when he did, the driver accelerated to 93 mph and did not stop.
Bernstein called off the pursuit because of the conditions and because part of the roadway was closed in Danvers due to a serious crash.
Police say the driver suddenly pulled over in the breakdown lane after being chased for four miles.
Joshua Silva, 22, of Gloucester was arrested and charged with failing to stop for police, negligent driving and speeding.
Police also filed an immediate threat report with the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
Silva told police he was going to a friend's house in Salem.
