'Glasses Off' App Claims To Retrain Brain To See Better
BOSTON (CBS) - It's a sad reality.
As we get older, our vision gets worse.
Now some people are turning to an app to get rid of their reading glasses.
'Glasses Off' claims it can retrain your brain to see better.
It offers a series of vision tests for iPhones and iPads.
Nimrod Madar, the CEO of Glasses Off, claims the app isn't about retraining the eye, but retraining your brain how to interpret what the eye sees.
Dr. Peter Bex of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary is trying it out.
"I'm now using this app to see if I can read without the needing the reading glasses," he told WBZ-TV.
"It works to do some things. It certainly makes you better at being able to detect faint patterns."
Dr. Bex is getting pretty good at the game, but he's not sure he'll be able to toss his new glasses -- even if he sticks to the program for a few months.
"'You can free yourself from reading glasses' is maybe a claim that's only specific to be able to play this game. You may still need reading glasses in order to be able to read or watch TV," he said.
Glasses Off touts a 90-percent success rate for qualified users - people who are experiencing vision loss as part of the natural aging process.
The app is free for the first couple of weeks, then it costs $60.
