'Glammed Up' New Moms 'Deliver' On Facebook And Twitter
BOSTON (CBS) - When they walk into the hospital in labor, every mom prays for a healthy baby. But many of today's mothers-to-be want something more. Just ask Erin, who didn't want to use her last name. "I did my makeup. I did my hair so I could look food for my pictures," she said.

With social media sites like Twitter and Facebook such a part of every day life, moms know they are going to need to be camera ready as soon as the baby is born. Erin's husband posted photos of her and their newborn daughter within hours of her birth. "Our family was still in the waiting room and suddenly they start getting messages and phone calls from family and friends," she said.
Parents Magazine says a growing number of moms are getting glammed up for the delivery with everything from spa treatments to designer hospital gowns. "Once the baby comes, you can pretty much tell the world within seconds," said Ana Connery, editor of Parents Magazine. "You want to look your best. You want your baby to be presented to the world in a certain way," she added.
Nurse manager Joan Diamond says she has definitely noticed the trend. "They know they are going to be on camera. This is like their shining moment. This is comparable to their wedding day," she said.
An increase in scheduled c-sections and induced labors has also fueled the trend. Erin knew she was having a c-section, so she was able to prepare. "It made me feel good about myself. I went in looking good and I came out looking good," she said.
Erin admits her daughter was the star of the day but she is glad she had the time to look her best. "I have to be honest, when I flip through the photo albums and the online albums, I like that I had makeup on," she said.
Some experts believe you should notify close relatives before posting the news and the pictures on Facebook or Twitter. You don't want casual friends to know about your baby before the grandparents do.
