Girl Scouts Hiking Price Of Cookies
BOSTON (CBS) -- Are you a fan of Girl Scout cookies? If so, prepare to pay 25 percent more for that next box of Thin Mints.
It's been at least eight years since the last price increase, but the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts' council have approved hiking the price from $4 to $5 per package, according to the organization's website.
The cookie proceeds will allow Girl Scouts to participate in more leadership programs.
The additional revenue will also allow the council to increase investments in scholarships and camperships for girls, as well as training for adult volunteers.
The organization says the price adjustment aligns the consumer price of cookies with the council's increased wholesale cost from the baker over the past eight-to-10 years, and helps to meet the rising cost of programs.
Selling cookies is the primary fundraiser for the Girl Scouts.
The proceeds from the cookie program covers several programs including field trips, STEM conferences, outdoor adventures, and community service projects.
The price increase goes into effect starting Dec. 11.
Cookies will be on sale from Dec. 11 through March 2016.
