Generous Donations Help NH Teen Get New Racing Wheelchair
GOFFSTOWN, N.H. (CBS) - More than enough money has been raised for a New Hampshire high school student whose wheelchair was totaled in an accident last month.
Andy Martin, 16, received a few bumps and bruises in the crash, but his rented wheelchair was destroyed.
Martin, who has spina bifida, was training to push through all 26.2 miles of Boston Marathon for the first time, but was unable to compete due to the accident.
But, thanks to generous donations, Martin will be getting his own new racing wheelchair. His teacher told WBZ-TV Friday that fund organizers received more than enough money, including $3,000 from a Portsmouth woman who signed the check "your fairy godmother."
A temporary chair was also donated so that Martin can race in the Special Olympics this weekend.
