Gaming Commission Rejects Boston's Request To Delay Process Until After November Vote
BOSTON (AP) — State gambling regulators have turned down Boston's request to halt the eastern region casino license process until after the November election, when voters will decide whether to repeal the state's casino law.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission voted unanimously Wednesday after hearing arguments from Mohegan Sun and Wynn Resorts as well as officials from Boston, Revere and Everett at a hearing at Bunker Hill Community College.
Commission members sided with the casinos and Revere and Everett officials, who argued that voters would be better informed before heading to the polls in November if the licensing process continued.
The panel expects to award the Boston-area license by early September.
It has already awarded a casino license to MGM Springfield, as well as a slot parlor license to Penn National Gaming for Plainville
