Fundraising Underway For Market Basket Workers That Didn't Get Paid
TEWKSBURY (CBS) – An effort is underway to raise money for Market Basket workers who went without a paycheck for weeks during the company stalemate.
Eleven booths have been set up in the Knights of Columbus lots in Tewksbury where people can donate money, WBZ NewsRadio's Mark Katic reported.
The stalemate ended this week when Arthur T. Demoulas bought a majority share of the company and employees returned to work.
Fundraiser Lesley Cote said she is hoping to raise up $1,500. The money will be added to the GoFundMe site that has already raised more than $108,000.
Market Basket worker Andrea Hinchcliffe is one of example of whom the money will assist.
It was a big struggle. But we all believed in what was going to happen," she said.
