Fund Honoring DJ Henry Will Help Young Athletes
EASTON (AP) - A foundation established by the family of a slain Pace University student has joined with a nonprofit to provide sports equipment and membership fees for needy children in Massachusetts.
The DJ Dream Fund, established in memory of Danroy "DJ" Henry Jr., will provide scholarships for sports fees. The Quincy-based charity Good Sports, which partners with sporting goods manufacturers and others to provide equipment to organizations working with disadvantaged youth, will offer equipment and safety gear.
"We hope to honor our son DJ's life by impacting and inspiring as many children as we can," said his mother Angella Henry, co-founder of the fund.
Danroy Henry Jr., 20, of Easton, was killed Oct. 17 as he drove away from a disturbance outside a bar in Thornwood, N.Y., following Pace University's homecoming game.
