Frustration Builds As Crews Work To Restore Power In Mass.
SUDBURY (CBS) - Electrical crews have almost finished their work restoring power to homes across the state. But for those still waiting, frustration is starting to build -- especially as their friends and neighbors get their electricity back.
NStar teams working in Sudbury into late Thursday were trying to get power back to 44 homes that have been out since Monday afternoon. NStar's CEO and President Tom May was on site, explaining that his workers have "done fabulously" when it comes to their post-Sandy performance.
"Putting the system back in three days is pretty impressive," he says. "Our sense is that our customers are happy, they're patient."
Two houses away, that wasn't exactly the case. The Darley family was on day three of spoiled food, trips to the laundromat, and needing to haul all their electronics to the library so they could be charged.
"We could shower for the first couple days, but now you have to kind of stick your head under the sink," explains Chris Darley, a senior at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.
His mom, Elizabeth, is quick to point out that their troubles are nothing compared to the hardships being faced by people in New York in New Jersey. But at the same time, she says, it's been frustrating watching two NStar vehicles parked in front of the downed lines near her house every day this week - but no one's been working on the lines.
"There's one over on this side and one there," she explains, "and the people are doing nothing, the whole time. So for all these days, there are people in these trucks doing nothing."
By late Thursday night, the Darley's finally got power back, but some of their neighbors were still waiting.
