Frigid...

You've heard me say this before, I can handle the cold, it's the wind that I could do without!  Seriously, today would have been beautiful (20s and bright sunshine) if it weren't for those single digit windchills.

Tonight, we will bottom out in the single digits above zero in all suburbs but it will feel like single digits below zero with the relentless wind.  With the frigid start, it will be tough to rebound suffiently...we will only manage mid 20s, colder than today, but it will likely feel a bit better as the wind settles in the afternoon.  High clouds will work in during the afternoon...a sign of a warm up...filtering any late day sunshine.

On a side note, as this arctic air flows over the warmer ocean water, it creates significant low level instability...convective-like snow bursts will be seen on the Cape most of the night.  The Outer Cape will wake up to a couple of inches and roads will be slick!  I guess if you are desperate to see snow take a drive out Route 6.

Temps begin moderating by Thursday and we will emerge from the deep freeze and get above 32 degrees by midday.  High by Friday in the warmer southerly flow will touch 40 or better.  The trade off for the milder air will be clouds and maybe a few flurries.

Saturday will be the warmest of the stretch as once again highs will climb through the 40s and maybe even to 50 in a few spots before a surface cold front passes through sometime Saturday night.  The timing of the cold may be critical as there are a couple of indications of a Sunday coastal storm now.  The cold looks marginal so IF it develops there would likely be a mix of rain and snow...but right now that is a big IF.
