Friends, Family Remember Sharon Man Killed During Attack In Israel
SHARON (CBS) -- A devastated community came together on Sunday to say goodbye to Ezra Schwartz.
The 18-year-old from Sharon was killed Thursday in a terrorist attack on the West Bank.
"He had his whole life ahead of him, and someone stole his life from him. They just took it away from him," high school friend Jessica Shrayber said.
Hundreds packed Temple Sinai of Sharon on Canton Street, while hundreds more stood outside in the rain to pay their respects to a young man who gave his life to help others and deepen his faith.
Schwartz graduated Maimonides High School in 2015, and he was spending a gap year in Israel as part of a faith journey. He was looking forward to studying business at Rutgers University.
He had just finished delivering food to Israeli soldiers, and then while stuck in traffic a Palestinian terrorist shot several cars, killing Schwartz who was inside one of them.
"He was just very nice and kind, and he was giving food to soldiers. Just a sad and tragic thing that happened," friend Max Schaper said.
During the funeral, Ezra's father said his son loved Israel, adding that he lived a wonderful life and died a happy person.
