Freshman State Rep. Wants To Eliminate Per Diems
BOSTON (CBS) - A State Representative from Sutton says it's not fair lawmakers are paid for driving to their jobs, but their constituents are not.
Legislators can be paid allowances for mileage, meals and lodging for commuting to Boston.
Freshman State Rep. Ryan Fattman wants to change that.

He says the topic came up a lot when he ran for office last year.
"Going door to door we met a lot of people who were unemployed and not able to go to work," says Fattman. "I thought it funny that legislators were paid to go to work."
Fattman's bill would grandfather the per diems for current lawmakers, but eliminate them for new legislators starting in 2013.
