Suspect Dead In Foxwoods Officer-Involved Shooting
LEDYARD, Conn. (CBS/AP) – Connecticut authorities say an armed casino patron was shot and killed by a tribal police officer during a confrontation at Foxwoods Resort Casino.
A Mashantucket Tribal Police officer was involved in the fatal incident in a parking garage late Tuesday morning.
State police say there was an outstanding arrest warrant for the patron, whom authorities haven't named. Tribal police confronted the patron in the parking garage, where police say the patron produced a weapon, and shots were fired.
After he was shot, the suspect either fell or jumped from the fourth floor of the parking garage and onto the paved driveway below.
Police say no one else was hurt in the shooting.
Immediately following the incident, police kept people away from the Fox Tower garage.
As of 11 p.m. Tuesday, all areas of the casino were open to the public other than some areas of the garage. The fourth and fifth levels of the garage remained closed to incoming traffic.
The New London State's Attorney and detectives from Eastern District Major Crime have taken over the investigation.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy on the man who was shot and killed.
That autopsy will determine if the man died from the gunshot wound or fall.
