Four Men Rescued From Sinking Fishing Boat
BOSTON (CBS) - Four men had to be rescued when their boat began to sink off the coast of Cape Cod.
At approximately 5 a.m., the Coast Guard responded to a distress call from a 47-foot fishing boat eight miles south of Chatham.
Captain R.M. Chace said the boat was taking on water.
The crew put on survival suits and awaited help.
When the Coast Guard arrived, they used a pump to control the flooding while towing the boat back to Hyannis.
The crew was able to safely remove their day's catch, and the rescue crews confirmed there was no additional flooding or damage.
"We encourage mariners to ensure all watertight hatches and doors function properly to prevent unintentional flooding of critical compartments," said Chatham Coast Guard Senior Chief Rob Goley.
