Former Red Sox Schilling To Deliver Commencement In RI

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) -- Former Red Sox pitcher and video game entrepreneur Curt Schilling is scheduled to deliver the commencement address at the New England Institute of Technology.

Schilling is in the process of moving his company, 38 Studios LLC, to Rhode Island from Massachusetts.

Schilling played 20 years in the majors and won three World Series championships, including two with Boston, before retiring in 2009.

Richard Gouse, president of the Warwick-based school, said in a statement that Schilling was invited to graduation ceremonies because he "has the right formula for success."

The move of Schilling's company has been controversial because it was given a $75 million loan guarantee by the state that critics say wasn't warranted for a business with no track record of success.

The ceremony is scheduled for May 1 in Providence.
