Manny Ramirez Arrested In Florida
BOSTON (CBS/AP) - Former Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez was arrested at his Florida home Monday night.
Ramirez was taken out of his Weston, Florida home in handcuffs around 7 p.m. Two witnesses told the celebrity gossip site TMZ Ramirez and his wife were involved in an altercation.
According to the police report, Ramirez and his wife were arguing in their bedroom when he slapped her face, causing her to hit her head on their bed's headboard. She became afraid the situation would escalate, and called police.
Ramirez denied hitting his wife, telling a deputy "he grabbed his wife by the shoulders and when he shrugged her, she hit her head."
After signing a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Rays, Ramirez retired from baseball earlier this season after he was informed of his second violation of MLB's drug policy.
He had been suspended once before for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs, and would have faced a 100-game suspension.
Ramirez spent 7 1/2 seasons with the Red Sox, and finished his career with a .312 batting average and 555 home runs over 18-plus seasons.
He was named the MVP of the 2004 World Series while with Boston.
