Former Leominster Officer Appeals Firing Over Racial Slur Directed At Sox Player
LEOMINSTER (CBS) - A former Leominster Police officer who was fired after directing a racial slur at a Red Sox player last summer was at City Hall on Tuesday to appeal his termination.
An arbiter will decide whether John Perrault should have lost his job over the incident involving former Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford. Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzerella fired Perrault in July 2012 after he called Crawford a "Monday," a seldom-used racial slur, during a minor league game in New Hampshire.
Perrault claims his use of the term was only meant to show his dislike for Crawford's play on the field, much the same way people dislike Mondays.
