Former Gov. Deval Patrick Tapped To Lead Effort On Olympic Bid

BOSTON (CBS/AP) — Republican Gov. Charlie Baker says when it comes to Boston's bid for the 2024 Olympics, he's more concerned about the product than the people.

Baker was asked Monday about the decision by Boston 2024, the nonprofit organization leading the effort to bring the games to Massachusetts, to tap his Democratic predecessor, ex-Gov. Deval Patrick, as a paid consultant.

Several of Patrick's former top aides are also playing key roles with the Olympic group.

Baker, who was not told in advance of Patrick's role, said he was more concerned about the many "unanswered questions" surrounding the Olympic bid, adding that time was wasting.

Boston's Mayor Marty Walsh called for Boston 2024 to make public its staff and consultants salaries.

"The success of Boston's bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games relies on transparency," Walsh said in a public statement released Monday.

Patrick's role is expected to involve promoting Boston to the International Olympic Committee, which will choose a host city for the games in 2017.
