Scalabrine Named Assistant Coach Of Golden State Warriors
BOSTON (CBS) - Brian Scalabrine won't be able to lend his voice to Boston Celtics broadcasts next season.
The Golden State Warriors have hired Scal as an assistant coach, according to head coach Marc Jackson.
Scalabrine, a frequent guest on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich, became a fan favorite towards the end of his 11-year NBA career. He played sparingly for the Celtics and Bulls in the finals years of his career, but received rousing ovations when he entered games -- becoming some-what of a "human victory cigar."
Scal retired in 2012 and turned down an offer to become an assistant for the Chicago Bills, instead trying his hand in broadcasting. He did color commentary for a handful of Boston Celtics road games in 2013, in addition to doing studio work for Comcast Sports Network New England.
He also showed he could beat anyone off the streets, beating four of Boston's best off the streets in Toucher & Rich's "Scallenge" earlier this year.
Scalabrine averaged 3.1 points and 2.0 rebounds per game over his career. He won an NBA Championship with the Celtics in 2008, and appeared in two other NBA Finals while with the New Jersey Nets.
