Forecast Calls For Another Brutally Cold, Snowy Winter
BOSTON (CBS) - AccuWeather in State College, Pennsylvania is predicting another brutally cold and snowy winter for a large part of the country, especially states in higher latitudes.
The reason?
La Nina is returning with a similar look to last winter!
When sea surface temperatures across the equatorial eastern Pacific ocean are below normal, cold air gets involved in the global weather pattern.
This can produce a volitile winter for the northeast with persistent cold and active weather.
Last year we had 81 inches of snow in Boston.
The good news is this winter is not expected to be quite as extreme as last.
Still, snowfall is forecast to average above normal with totals likely to eclipse the seasonal average of 42 inches at Logan Airport.
Interior areas of New England stand the best chance of more significant cold and snow, with a better chance of milder air to periodically penetrate into southern New England as the winter progresses.
Winter is expected to get off to a quick start in December.
By winter's end, temperatures are forecast to average near normal.
With plenty of cold in the interior and an active weather pattern, it looks like another promising ski season!
