Star Wars Fans Shop At Midnight To Celebrate 'Force Friday'

FRAMINGHAM (CBS) – Stores in the Boston area were among those opening their doors at midnight Friday, giving Star Wars fans the first opportunity to purchase merchandise from the iconic movie franchise's newest addition.

"Force Friday" kicked off at midnight in 3,000 stores around the country.

As a part of the event, fans got first dibs at Star Wars merchandise in advance of the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Among the stores opening early was Toys "R" Us in Framingham, where shopper Andy Trotterman shopped with his son Max.

"I bought a Luke Skywalker lightsaber, and it's awesome," Max said.

In addition to lightsabers, the newly released Star Wars toys include construction sets, figures and collectibles, apparel, home décor and other items.

The new Star Wars movie hits theaters on December 18.

"I'm pumped! Cannot wait," Andy Trotterman said about the new movie.
