Floodwaters In Peabody Worsen Mosquito Problem
PEABODY (CBS) - As if residents in Peabody haven't been socked with enough this week, now the city's Public Health Director says mosquitoes there tested positive for West Nile Virus, and flood waters make the problem even worse.
Tuesday, Peabody Square was swallowed up by a convergence of rain and high tide. 100 homes and 21 businesses were flooded. Now, local officials are warning residents that all the standing water could yield more mosquitoes.

"We do have the concern that with all the water around, the mosquito population has an opportunity to continue breeding," says Peabody Public Health Director Shannon Cameron.
Mosquito control crews sprayed pesticide from trucks Tuesday night. They plan to continue spraying through the weekend.
