Man Survives Boat Explosion At East Boston Dock

BOSTON (CBS) -- A boat at an East Boston dock blew up late Tuesday morning injuring the owner on board.

The 34-foot fiberglass cabin cruiser named The Desperado was docked at the Boston Harbor Shipyard Marina when witnesses heard an explosion around 10:30 a.m.

It blew up when the boat's owner started the engine.

He was left with minor burns, but the cabin cruiser sank in its slip.

"He came up the dock, his hair was singed back on the side of his head, an older guy in his 60's," witness Howard Rudzinksy told WBZ-TV.

The injured man's name has not been made public.  He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital as a precaution.

There's no word yet on what caused the explosion.
