Fix For Mass. Health Exchange Website Will Cost More Than $120 Million
BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts officials estimate their plan for replacing the state's failed health exchange website will cost more than $120 million, but hope that most of the money will come from the federal government.
The board overseeing the state's health connector voted 10-1 on Thursday to support a "dual-track" approach that calls for purchasing software powering health exchanges in other states, while also laying the groundwork for a temporary switchover to the federal government's health care exchange, if necessary.
The plan follows the disastrous rollout of a state website that dramatically slowed the transition from Massachusetts' first-in-the-nation universal health care program to the requirements of the federal Affordable Care Act.
Officials said trying to rebuild the site would be too expensive and not guarantee a functional exchange by the next open enrollment period in the fall.
