Templeton Woman Dies After Tire Hits SUV On Route 2 In Fitchburg
FITCHBURG (CBS) – A 42-year-old Templeton woman died Wednesday after her Jeep was struck in the windshield by a tire and rim on Route 2 in Fitchburg.
The crash happened at about 1 p.m. Wednesday near Mt. Elam Road. State Police said the woman was rushed to Leominster Hospital with serious injuries and then flown to UMass Medical Center in Worcester where she died. Her name has not been released.
Heather Valdez and her 10-year-old daughter were just one car ahead of the crash, and she can't forget what she saw in the rear-view mirror.
"I seen the tire just hit her car and her car just kind of veer and stop," Valdez said. "And I just immediately pulled over and was like 'Oh my God.'"
State Police are still investigating where the tire and rim came from.
"We have identified another vehicle that was in that area but at this time we have not determined whether that vehicle or another still unidentified vehicle was the source of the tire and rim," State Police said Wednesday night.
