Fisherman Statue Stolen From Lee, NH Front Yard

LEE, NH (CBS) - Police in Lee, New Hampshire are asking people to keep an eye out after bandits swiped a statue out of someone's front yard.

Officers say the fisherman statue known as "Salty" was taken from the front yard a residence in Pine Knoll Village overnight.

They know that at least two people carried away the 4-foot, 150 lb. statue because detectives found two sets of footprints in the snow that led from where the statue had stood.

Lee Police Sgt. Tom Dronsfield says the theft isn't the first they've seen in the area.

"We had a wooden homemade raindeer stolen from the front lawn of another home in this park," he said.

Sgt. Dronsfield thinks it's possible that college kids may be behind the theft.

"We have the University of New Hampshire nearby. To me, it kind of has the flavor of a college prank," Sgt. Dronsfield told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Doug Cope.

Police are asking anyone with information to get in touch with them.
