First Lady Meets With Bombing Victims, Attends Markey Fundraiser In Boston
BOSTON (CBS) -- Her motorcade was the only public glimpse of First Lady Michelle Obama in Boston today, but for victims of the marathon bombings her presence was powerful.
"I think it makes us feel special to be getting a lot of support, especially coming from the First Lady. It's overwhelming and means a lot," said Nicole Gross, who came to Boston from her home in Charlotte, North Carolina where she recently returned to continue her rehabilitation.
The First Lady visited several of the victims in hospitals in the days after the bombings, but for Heather Abbott this was different because she is out of her hospital bed.

"When I met her in the ICU I had not had an amputation yet and was considering whether it was my best option. Now here I am weeks later ready to get fitted for a prosthetic leg next week," she said.

It's progress they are anxious to share with the First Lady, in town for a fundraiser for Congressman Ed Markey's senate bid, but determined not to leave without the additional visits.
They each had private time with their families, which they say helps to raise their spirits.
"I'm able to walk on my own two feet which is wonderful," said Nicole Gross. "I have a lot more independence and I have the support of my loving husband. We're going to be OK."
