First Cuts: Red Sox Option Britton To Portland; Assign Henry, Marrero To Minor League Camp
BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Red Sox announced their first cuts of the spring on Monday.
The Red Sox optioned left-handed pitcher Drake Britton to Double-A Portland, and reassigned infielder/outfielder Justin Henry and shortstop Deven Marrero to their minor league camp on Monday, general manager Ben Cherington announced.

Britton appeared in two games for Boston this spring, surrendering five hits and three earned runs over 3.1 innings or work.
Marrero, Boston's top draft pick last June, was the first position player since Scott Hatteberg to be invited to the big-league camp in his first season of professional baseball. He had just two at-bats this spring, but clubbed a single in one of them.

The 27-year-old Henry had one hit in eight at-bats for the Red Sox this spring, and will likely wind up in Pawtucket.
With the moves, the Red Sox now have 57 players in big league camp, including 17 non-roster invitees.
