Father, Baby Injured In R.I. House Explosion
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (CBS) - Firefighters were at the scene of a fiery house explosion on Mineral Spring Avenue in Pawtucket.
A father and his 9-month-old baby were taken to the hospital with burns. The mother was also in the apartment but made it out safely.
The father was badly burned as he tried to protect his family.
An off-duty Providence firefighter entered the burning apartment and helped the residents to safety.
In a tweet, Providence Mayor Angel Taveras identified the firefighter as Jermaine Woods and congratulated him for his bravery.
The building's eight other residents have been displaced and the Red Cross is assisting those families.
No reports have been made yet on what caused the explosion.
