Firefighters Battle Heat, Three-Alarm Fire In Roxbury
BOSTON (CBS) – Boston firefighters braved the heat, and battled a three-alarm fire at an apartment building in Roxbury Friday.
Due to the dangerous weather, 75 firefighters responded to the blaze on Columbus Ave, and rotated in and out of the six unit building in 10-15 minute shifts.
One firefighter was transported to the hospital with chest pains.
When crews arrived, heavy fire was reported coming from the rear of the building.
One teen was inside at the time, but got out safely.
According the the Boston Fire Department, the cause was the careless disposal of a cigarette on the third floor rear porch.
Twelve people have been displaced.
Crews estimate the damage at $250,000.
Temperatures in Boston reached 103 degrees Friday, making it the second hottest day ever in Boston's history.
