Dozens Homeless After 4-Alarm Fire In Lynn
LYNN (CBS) – Firefighters battled a four-alarm blaze on Bennett Circle in Lynn late Tuesday afternoon.
The fire started at a six-family triple-decker home and spread to an adjacent building. Firefighters say the fire started either on the first floor or outside on the porch.
Crews at a nearby fire station actually spotted the flames, then the 911 calls started coming in.
Those who were inside got themselves out. The fire chief says apparently there were a lot more people living there than they expected.
"The occupancy on the left has some rooms that have separate entrances with separate locks on each door, so that's an indicator that it's probably some kind of rooming house type situation," Lynn Fire Chief James McDonald said. "We will be investigating that too."
The heat was hard on the firefighters and they called in extra crews as a precaution. One was treated for heat exhaustion at the scene.
The Red Cross is assisting more than 50 people who are currently displaced by the fire.
