Firefighters Battle 2-Alarm Malden Fire
MALDEN (CBS) – Several residents have been displaced after a two-alarm fire broke out at an apartment building Saturday afternoon in Malden, officials say.
Malden firefighters were called to 468 Salem St. shortly before 3:30 p.m., where a fire began at the three-and-a-half story wood frame house.
The fire was knocked down around 4:30 p.m.
Deputy Fire Chief Bill Sullivan says the house is uninhabitable due to extensive damage caused by the blaze.
Six residents were displaced and the Red Cross is providing assistance to them.
Two cats were removed from the home and both are believed to be OK, officials say.
No one was harmed during the blaze.
Everett, Medford, Melrose, Revere and Somerville provided mutual aid.
Firefighters didn't encounter water issues or hydrants covered by snow, officials say.
The scene was cleared about 6:15 p.m.
The origin and cause of the fire are currently under investigation.
