Arson Fire Destroys Cape Cod Church
BREWSTER (CBS) – A church on the Cape was destroyed in a fire early Friday morning. Investigators suspect that it was intentionally set.
Flames broke out in the Cape Cod Bible Alliance Church on Route 6A in Brewster around 3 a.m.
It quickly moved to three alarms. There were no reported injuries.
Sources tell WBZ-TV's Bill Shields that search dogs found something suspicious in the charred remains.
The church is a total loss. Demolition crews have already begun tearing down what's left of the structure.
The state fire marshal says this fire does not initially appear to be connected to a recent string of arson fires on the South Shore. In the past two months, 17 South Shore buildings have been torched, all of them unoccupied.
However, local officials say this is the third fire in their area in a week. One of those fires, on Saturday, destroyed a vacant motel ten miles from the church in Harwich. Investigators do not know whether that fire is related.
